-Whitney and Kenny Get Married-

Remember when I took engagement photos for my dear friend Whitney and her then fiance Kenny?

Well they're no longer engaged, because they finally got married!  Now I didn't take the happy couples wedding photos, but I did take some prewedding photos for them and loved that I was able to capture some special moments for the happy couple.

I love that the couple exchanged gifts and hand written letters from each other before their ceremony.  Whitney was brought to tears after reading Kenny's letter

The beautiful bride to be in wedding mode.

Despite knowing I'm a huge klutz the couple actually trusted me enough to borrow their rings for a few minutes to get a couple shots, I've never been so careful in all my life!

Meanwhile the girls hung out sipping wine

While the boys watched football and had a pre wedding drink

Congrats on your wedding you guys! I'm so glad I was able to be a part of your special day!

-The Houston Family-

I recently had the chance to take photos for the Houston family. From the moment I arrived at their house we had a wonderful time. Cory and her family are full of so much life and energy that it made taking their photos so easy.

-The Cookseys-

I was asked kind of spur of the moment to take photos of the Cooksey family for their family/ holiday photos. After doing their son Titus's newborn photos last month I jumped at the chance to work with this great family again.

-Archer-

I first met Archer's mom, Stephanie, when I started working as a nurse at CHKD. She recently had gone on maternity leave with her first born, Hayden. Steph and I instantly hit it up and she has become such a wonderful friend.

Now almost 5 years later she has added 2 more children to her crew including her first son Archer, who is one of the cutest infants I've ever met. He was so relaxed during our shoot he made it a little too easy for me and I love how the images of him and his family came out.

-Nia-

A few weeks ago I was called my a previous client of mine to do some more photos. Last time I did senior photos of her lovely daughter Dominique and this time I was asked to take photos of her other daughter, Nia, a mommy to be.  Now if there is anything I love its pregnant bellys.

-Ethan-

A few weeks ago I was contacted by an old friend from high school. Her soon to be stepson is graduating high school this year and hadn't gotten his senior photos this year so of course I am willing to help an old friend out.

-Ethan Turns 3-

I have a 3 year old now ( or I will in less then 2 hours) can you believe it! I know I couldn't.  Each year I have spent weeks thinking of the perfect location to take birthday photos of him and this year it was done on a whim. I was at my moms house and was like "hey I have my camera, lets do this!" Lucky for me she was willing to come along and lend a hand coaxing Ethan to go where I needed. He's pretty use to me always having my camera around, but its still not easy to catch a moving target.

We were literally driving down the road when I saw corn fields. Of course they were on private property but we were in and out in 5 minutes and no one ever knew ( until now).

-Rachel and Isabel Part II-

I can't believe I had so much fun with these 2 girls, so much so that we turned it into a 2 day shoot. Day 2 had 4 different locations and we were able to get tons of gorgeous photos. My favorite part? They didn't want to do just stereotypical photo locations, they thought outside the box which resulted in some amazing shots.

Dominique

When I was asked to do photos for Dominique I was thrilled. I work with her mom, and figured if she was anything like her mom we were in for a fun time. I was right! Dominique just graduated high school a year early and is heading off to college in the fall.

-Rachel and Isabel-

Sometime when I go on a shoot I just know that I'm going to have fun. This was one of those shoots. Rachel is the daughter of a dear friend of mine and Isabel has spent the last year living with them from abroad. The two have grown so incredibly close that when Leslie asked me if I'd take some photos of them before they went off to college I jumped at the chance.  What was suppose to be an after work ( as in my nursing job) shoot before sunset turned into 2 days of fun with some amazing kids.  So much fun that I'll probably post these photos in 2 separate posts.

For the first day of photos the girls brought along Rachel's best friend Nic and we hit up some of there favorite locations in downtown Norfolk including museums and the historic library.

-The Rekkedals-

Over the weekend I was able to take some photos of a dear friend of mine and her family. Kathy is such a sweetheart and we have know each other for over 6 years. She even has been nice enough to write a post for my other blog in the past.   Her own little one, June is almost 8 months old and absolutely gorgeous. She is also a daddy's girl, which was pretty obvious as the shoot went on.

-Tanya and Alex-

Yesterday I had the chance to take photos for Tanya and her boyfriend Alex. They were so cute! Not only do they both serve in the military but they are in a long distance relationship so I can relate to having to capture time together as much as possible.

When we first got there they were super nervous but as time started to pass you saw them loosen up and start to forget that they were being followed by "paparazzi" ie- me.

-Beach Day-

The best part about where we live is the fact that the beach is 15 minutes from our house so we get to take advantage of it quite often.

-Pam and Zack Wedding-

These photos are from last summer but I thought I would go ahead and post them because I have been asked if I've ever done wedding photos. They answer is yes. It was quite an experience and definitely not the type of photography I gravitate towards.

When Pam and Zack asked me to do photos at their wedding I was definitely nervous but I figured oh what the heck, its an opportunity to expand my photography, so why not.

-Summer Time Fun-

Summer time means pool time, and in this house we spend as much time outside as we can. We have a pool in our neighborhood that we use most of the time, but every once in a while we pull out the inflatable pool and enjoy some good old back yard fun.

Rainy Day

Rain, rain go away!
Or not.  Ethan wanted to try out his new rain boots so I figured why not?

Fire boots and Superman for the win.

-Whitney and Kenny-

Yesterday I had the opportunity to do engagement photos for a dear friend of mine, Whitney. I'm so excited that I was able to do this for her and her fiance.  I've know Whitney through work for about 4 years now and she is a complete sweetheart, so its only fitting that Kenny is an absolute doll. They're such a fun and down to earth couple.

We headed over to the same barn and fields that I did Ethan's birthday photos at last year. It was overgrown from the spring but I think it made it only that much more beautiful.

-Busch Gardens-

Today we spent the afternoon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and had a blast!
Ethan and I have a seasons pass that way we always have something to do if we "get bored" it wears him out and we always have a good time.

A personal favorite, the teacups. We rode these about 5 times before we convinced him to move on.

-Aiden-

Yesterday I had the opportunity to photograph Ethan's best buddy Aiden for his 3 year photos.   He was so excited to be at the beach that it took a while to get him to look at the camera ( and maybe a little bribery with a lollipop).

I've taken plenty of photos of him in the past, but these might be some of my favorite photos of him.

-Love Family-

I have a few shoots that I'm in the process of editing but in the mean time thought I'd show some past photo shoots from the last few months. This is the Love family and now only do I get to take photos of their very cute little boy Aiden, but he is also Ethan's best buddy.  They asked me to do some "nontraditional" photos for the holidays and I love how many of them came out.

They wanted family photos that truly expressed their personality and I think they hit the nail on the head with their Bazinga shirts

So Tim has been home from Cuba for 2 weeks and during that time we've had a lot going on. Aubrey graduated from high school and we did a road trip to Michigan to spend time with family

-Guest Post From Aubrey-

Hi, this is Aubrey. Shannon gave me the opportunity to show off some of my own photos here on her blog. Since I graduated from high school this past Sunday, she and dad gave me a camera of my own that I can start practicing with and taking my own photos. Then I can be the best photographer ever like Shannon (I promise she didn't make me say that). They're not the best yet considering I've never had a camera other than my phone before, so don't judge me too harshly. I'll get better eventually. Until then let me know what you think!
Fun at the bowling alley

-Sophia-

A few weeks ago I was luckily enough to be asked to take some photos of a coworkers daughter Sophia for her senior photos and I love how they came out. Luckily I only heard great things from her and her mom about the photos as well. I would take her photos any time, she made it so easy!
We had such a blast and headed over the the beach since it was such a beautiful day out.

-Cuba-

About two months ago I was able to fly to Cuba to visit my husband where he is stationed. It was a flight of many first- first time Ethan and I flew alone together, first time flying overseas, and my first military flight.

Something to Smile About

I'm Shannon. Navy wife, mom, oncology nurse and aspiring photographer. My life is pretty hectic but I tend to like it that way and thrive on the chaos.  Growing up I've always loved the arts and have never been one to turn away from a camera. My mom says I'm vain, but I just think of it as an exuding confidence ( maybe a little too much, but don't tell her that)

In early 2011 my husband and I found out I was pregnant with our son Ethan and he bought me my first camera. We didn't know then what a passion this would become but over the years I've been working on my talent and have taught myself so much. Like many other aspiring photographers started off with taking photos of my family and then was asked by friends to take photos for them since then my photography has blossomed. I never thought much of it because this is something I did for fun. It is relaxing and allows me to lose myself. But my friends and family noticed a talent in me that I didn't realize was there before and have been my inspiration to push forward and see if this is something I can really do. I'm no where near ready to open my own "photography business" but I'm definitely ready to start showing my photos and see where it leads. Maybe one day even to my own business.
